Dr. Charles J. Doering, M.D.

Dr. Charles J. Doering is a skilled ophthalmologist with decades of experience providing personalized vision care. A native of New York, he takes pride in combining clinical excellence with a patient-first approach.

Dr. Charles J. Doering, a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of vitreo-retinal diseases. He practices at our Murrells Inlet location. Dr. Doering brings a combination of superb medical training and experience with the latest advances in retinal care to Grand Strand Retina patients.
 
A native of New York, he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Union College in 1994, then went on to earn his medical degree from the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn in 1998. Dr. Doering completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, New York in 1999, and a residency in Ophthalmology at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, New York. He then advanced his training with a two-year fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery at the renowned New York Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical College where he studied with leaders and innovators of modern vitreo-retinal surgery.
 
Dr. Doering held a research fellowship in cell biology and neuroscience at the New York University School of Medicine. In addition, he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society and elevated as an Associate Member of Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. At Grand Strand Retina, Dr. Doering cares for patients with macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, macular edema, and proliferative vitreo-retinopathy. Dr. Doering is committed to advancing the level of retinal care for patients at Grand Strand Retina by remaining in the leading edge of research and treatment.
 
Dr. Doering is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Medical Association.

Dr. Michael J. Mequio, MD

Dr. Michael Mequio (aka Dr. Mike) is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and refractive surgery, glaucoma and medical retinal conditions.

Dr. Michael Mequio (aka Dr. Mike) is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and refractive surgery, glaucoma and medical retinal conditions. He practices at our Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet locations. Dr. Mequio earned his undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College and his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Kresge Eye Institute, where he also served as chief resident. Before joining Grand Strand Retina, Dr. Mequio was in private practice and served as Chief of Ophthalmology at MacDill Air Force Base, earning the Meritorious Service Medal. Beyond his clinical work, he has completed humanitarian missions in Zambia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand. When not working, Dr. Mequio enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and their three children, participating in activities like kiteboarding, mountain biking and hiking.
